See you at AidEx!
It’s here! The new Better Shelter will be displayed in the Swedish Pavilion at AidEx on 15th and 16th November in Brussels – we look forward to meeting you there.
2016 saw the highest number of refugees ever recorded, and 2017, now nearing its end, is showing equally devastating figures. Better Shelter was founded with a will to improve the life of displaced men, women and children who live in uncertainty in refugee camps for many years.
The shelter, designed to complement the use of tents and local shelters, was developed with many financial, political and logistical challenges in mind. Since its introduction in 2015, thousands of Better Shelters have been shipped to operations worldwide. They have come to serve not just as temporary homes, but also clinics, offices, registration centres, child-friendly spaces and even temporary gyms.
Meanwhile, we have continued to develop the shelter’s performance further, which includes a number of improvements relating to safety and comfort:
- improved strength, durability and fire behaviour of the roof and wall panels, due to development of the material,
- a reinforced high-strength steel frame,
- a new solar-powered lamp system which provides more light for a longer period of time, and
- improved indoor climate with more ventilation inlets
The Swedish Pavilion is located in Hall 11, D10 at Aidex, Brussels Expo.
Better Shelter, UNHCR and IKEA Foundation have collaborated closely on developing the shelter in order to improve the everyday lives of refugees since the project’s inception in 2010.
