Adequate shelter remains one of the most significant needs towards the achievement of durable solutions for vulnerable displaced persons in Iraq. In its efforts to assist population of concern, UNHCR continues to promote accessibility to adequate shelter across Iraq. ; The Refugee Housing Units (RHU) are an innovative shelter solution, designed as a result of a detailed research and development project undertaken by UNHCR, with the support of partners. The RHU is composed of several basic elements, including a lightweight steel frame, roof and wall panels, door and windows, floor covering, solar energy system (lamp and telephone charger) and an innovative anchoring system. After extensive field testing of prototype in Iraq, the project has now developed a production model for volume mobilisation.
